Understanding Moniteau County Releases
A Moniteau County release record answers a specific question: when and under what authority did one custody event end? It does not necessarily say that the person went home. Someone may leave the Moniteau County Jail on bond, after a court order, after a dismissal, or after finishing a county sentence. The same jail record may instead show a transfer to the Missouri Department of Corrections, another county, a federal custodian, or immigration custody. Each result sends the search to a different agency.
The Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office controls the county booking event. Missouri courts explain the legal action that led to bond, probation, dismissal, commitment, or sentence completion. MODOC controls state-prison and state-supervision records. A current roster, if one is later added by the sheriff, would show present custody only. It would not replace the Moniteau County release record, and its absence would not identify where a person went.
A person who disappears from a jail listing may have transferred, died, or moved into another agency’s custody rather than entered the community.
Moniteau County Release Types
The words used in a Moniteau County release record have narrow meanings. Bond and recognizance end physical detention while the criminal case continues. A dismissal concerns the charge, but another hold can still prevent departure. Time served describes the custody consequence of a sentence. Probation is a court-ordered community sentence. Parole and conditional release follow a MODOC prison term and are supervised by the state. A transfer ends the county booking without ending custody.
| Release entry | What it means | Where to verify next |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | The person leaves local custody while the case remains open. | County jail record and Case.net bond entries |
| Dismissal or court order | A court or prosecutor acts on the case, subject to any other hold. | Case.net and the jail’s release authority field |
| Time served or sentence complete | The county custodial term ends. | Judgment, jail credit, and actual jail release time |
| Probation | The court imposes community supervision instead of continued confinement. | Case.net and MODOC active supervision records |
| Parole or conditional release | A state prisoner enters supervised release before final discharge. | MODOC and District 27 Probation and Parole |
| Transfer | One custodian hands the person to another. | The receiving county, MODOC, BOP, USMS, or ICE |
A death can also remove a name from custody data and must never be called a release. The exact entry matters more than a broad status label. When the record says transfer, follow the named receiving agency before drawing any conclusion about community status.
Note: A court disposition date and the jail’s physical release timestamp answer different questions and can fall at different times.
Fields in a Moniteau Release Record
Moniteau County does not publish an online release-field dictionary. A focused request should therefore ask for fields maintained by the jail rather than claim that every field must exist. The most useful record connects the person to one booking episode, identifies when custody began and ended, and states the authority or reason for the end. It may also identify charges and the broad destination category. The jail’s own timestamp is the best source for the actual end of that county booking.
| Requested field | What it can establish |
|---|---|
| Full name and known alias | Which identity the booking used |
| Booking number | The exact detention episode |
| Booking date and time | When the county episode began |
| Release date and time | When that county episode ended |
| Release type or authority | Bond, order, completion, transfer, or another recorded basis |
| Charges and holds at release | The open basis for detention at the end of the episode |
| Destination or receiving agency | Whether custody shifted to another system, if maintained and open |
| Booking photograph | The image tied to the county booking, if it exists and remains open |
Medical, juvenile, victim, witness, private-contact, and security details are not needed to confirm a release. A narrow request makes review easier and lets the custodian separate open fields from lawfully closed material. Ask for the segregable open portion if another part is withheld.
Request Moniteau County Release Records
The sheriff website publishes no dedicated release-record form, named online custodian, fixed booking-photo fee, or release-log fee. A written Chapter 610 request can go to the Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office at 1221 East Buchanan Street in California. A request focused on jail administration may identify the Moniteau County Jail at 210 East North Street. Call 573-796-2525 first to confirm the delivery method and correct counter because the business office and jail no longer share one address.
- Identify the person with a full name, known alias, and date of birth or booking number when lawfully known.
- Give the approximate booking date or a precise start and end time for a release-log request.
- Ask for the existing booking number, booking and release times, release authority, open charges, destination category, and booking photo.
- Request electronic records in their existing form and ask that open portions be separated from closed material.
- Ask for a cost estimate before charges are incurred and request the statute supporting any withholding.
Section 610.023 requires action as soon as possible and no later than the end of the third business day after receipt. That deadline governs the agency’s response, not necessarily final production. If access cannot be given at once, the custodian must provide a detailed reason and the earliest availability. Under the current version of section 610.026, ordinary paper copies no larger than 9 by 14 inches are capped at ten cents per page, with permitted staff, research, electronic-copy, and media costs. Advance payment may be required.

Missouri Law and Moniteau Records
Section 610.100 RSMo generally makes arrest and incident reports open while allowing investigative material and protected details to remain closed. If an arrested person is not charged within thirty days, the arrest report generally closes after that point, although the disposition portion remains available under the statute. That rule can explain why a Moniteau County result changes over time.
Expungement and confidentiality also affect public access. Sections 610.120 and 610.140 can close covered records held by entities named in an expungement order. Electronic data may be restricted instead of physically erased. A missing public result can also reflect a protected party, spelling, indexing, an older record, or system limits. It does not prove that no custody event occurred.
What if part of a release record is closed? Ask for the disposition and other segregable open fields. The custodian should cite the legal basis for material that is withheld.
Note: Missouri law does not require the sheriff to publish a searchable release archive merely because an underlying open record may be requested.
Property After Moniteau County Release
The official Moniteau County Jail page gives one useful property detail. Nonlegal incoming mail is copied, the copy is delivered to the detained person, and the original is placed in detainee property. That establishes that the facility stores property tied to a detention. It does not establish the release-day handoff process.
The jail does not publish which exit is used, what identification must be shown, whether another person may collect property, how weekends are handled, or when unclaimed property is disposed of. The released person or family should call the jail and ask about the actual pickup location and deadline. A general practice from another Missouri jail should not be assumed in Moniteau County.
Find Moniteau County Released Inmates
A reliable Moniteau County released inmate search starts with identity, then follows the custody trail. Use a full legal name, alternate spelling, approximate booking date, and arresting agency. A date of birth or booking number can separate people with similar names. Preserve update times from every portal because jail, court, state, and notification systems do not refresh together.
- Check the official sheriff and jail pages for a newly added vendor or roster link.
- Call the sheriff at 573-796-2525 for current placement and the route to a release record.
- Search Case.net for Moniteau County bond, dismissal, judgment, sentence, probation, warrant, or commitment entries.
- Search Missouri MOVANS for a current custody event or notification record.
- Use MODOC when the county episode ended in state commitment or active state supervision.
- Change to BOP, USMS, or ICE channels when the record identifies a federal or immigration transfer.
- Submit a narrow Sunshine Law request for a lasting county release record.
No one channel covers every Moniteau County release. Case.net can explain the legal reason, but it does not log the jail-door time. MOVANS can provide a timely event, but it is not a certified archive. MODOC covers state corrections, not a county-only detention. The county record remains the direct source for the precise Moniteau County Jail booking and release episode.
Moniteau County State Release Search
The MODOC Offender Web Search covers active offenders, including probationers and parolees. It accepts names, aliases, and a DOC identifier. Its critical limit is explicit: discharged offenders are excluded. The active search can show that someone left prison but remains on parole or conditional release. It cannot serve as a complete historical release locator after state supervision ends.
The official search screen shows the route and its warning. It should be read as a state-corrections tool, not as a Moniteau County booking archive.
Search by DOC number when possible. With a name search, compare birth information, offense, sentence county, assigned place, and the institutional or field status. Quote each displayed label rather than converting it into a broader claim.
| Field | Use | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| DOC ID | Best identifier for a state record | Not a county booking number |
| Name or alias | Initial person search | Must be matched with other identifiers |
| Assigned place | Separates institution from field supervision | Read the current label and data time |
| Offense and sentence county | Connects the state record to the case | County of sentence is not always location |
| Minimum release date | MODOC defines it as the conditional-release date | Not a guaranteed gate date |
| Maximum release date | Maximum or expiration date for the sentence row | Not always the actual physical exit |
| Completed flag | Shows a completed sentence row in historical data | One person may have several rows |
For a discharged person, use the MODOC Sunshine Law offender database or a focused state-records request. The file is updated nightly, reaches back as early as 1974, and can contain several rows for one person. MODOC warns that it is a working file that may be incomplete or inaccurate and includes self-reported data.
Note: An active-search miss may mean final discharge, a name mismatch, or protected data; it does not erase the underlying state record.
Moniteau County Recent Release Feed
The sheriff did not publish a current roster, release archive, 24-hour list, or 72-hour list in the official website inventory reviewed for this project. The official sheriff sitemap and jail navigation provide agency and service pages but no release endpoint, filter, field list, update cadence, retention period, photo field, or official mobile app. That negative finding should not be replaced with an unofficial roster.
For a same-day question, request all existing booking episodes with a recorded release inside a clearly defined Central Time range. A rolling twenty-four-hour period differs from a calendar day. For three days, provide exact start and end timestamps and ask for existing electronic release-log rows. The agency may redact closed material and generally need not create a new analytical report if no compiled list exists.
The sheriff and jail Facebook pages carry selective announcements, not a complete Moniteau County release database. A photo or incident post proves neither present custody nor release. A same-day check still needs the same timestamp-defined request and agency confirmation.
Moniteau County Court Release Clues
Missouri Case.net often outlasts a short jail event. Search by litigant name, narrow the result to Moniteau County, and read entries for bond, dismissal, plea, judgment, sentence, jail credit, probation, warrant, commitment, or later orders. A court entry can explain why custody changed, but it is not a physical release timestamp.
Moniteau County is part of the multi-county 26th Judicial Circuit. Felony records can move through associate and circuit stages, so the case division and case number matter. A name search may omit a protected party even when a public case exists. A case-number search, courthouse public terminal, or circuit clerk can be the better route. Read docket text literally and do not assume that every nonlinked entry has a public attachment.
The screenshot below shows the official statewide search entry. It is a court record channel, not a live custody tracker.
A docket can corroborate the legal basis for release after the jail listing changes, while the sheriff’s record supplies the actual local release time.
Moniteau County Release Alerts
The Missouri MOVANS portal is the state’s current specific-person custody and event search. The national VINELink remains a related VINE route. A release or noncustodial event shows what the reporting agency recorded, subject to participation, transmission, retention, identity, and outage limits. Preserve the exact status, agency, event time, and last update.
Federal and immigration releases require separate tools. The BOP Inmate Locator can show a former federal prisoner’s release date and indicate that the person is no longer in BOP custody. That does not rule out county, state, supervised, or immigration custody. ICE’s locator covers current detainees and people released from ICE custody within its stated recent window. A Moniteau County transfer to ICE is not a local community release.
USMS manages many federal pretrial movements but has no general public historical locator comparable to BOP. Use the federal docket, BOP when a sentenced person entered that system, or a focused USMS records request. Notification tools are useful for timely change alerts; an agency record remains the durable source.
Note: A release alert reports one agency’s event and should be checked against any transfer, detainer, or later custody shown elsewhere.
Released or Still in Moniteau Custody
The same name can appear differently across systems because each system answers a different question. Separate current physical placement from the end of a booking, active community supervision, final state discharge, and a federal or immigration event.
| System | What it can show | What it cannot prove alone |
|---|---|---|
| Moniteau County Jail record | Local booking and actual county release or transfer fields | Later custody under another authority |
| Case.net | Bond, dismissal, judgment, sentence, probation, and warrants | Exact jail-door time |
| MODOC active search | State incarceration or active parole and probation | Completed supervision because discharged people are excluded |
| MODOC historical data | Completed flags and documented sentence-date fields | A guaranteed physical release time for a county jail |
| MOVANS or VINELink | Participating-agency custody events and notifications | A certified, complete historical ledger |
| BOP or ICE | Custody information inside that federal system | Freedom from all other custody systems |
Does “not in BOP custody” mean fully released? No. It describes BOP status only. State, county, immigration, and court-ordered supervision may still apply.
Moniteau County Release Facilities
Moniteau County contains two very different correctional facilities. The Moniteau County Jail is a sheriff-run county facility built in 2012 with a published maximum capacity of 52. Tipton Correctional Center is a minimum-security MODOC prison on a state campus whose institutional history reaches back to 1915 and which opened as a correctional center in 1996. Their physical proximity does not merge their records.
Moniteau County Jail
Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office custody. Confirm the end of a booking through the county release record, then follow Case.net or any receiving system.
Tipton Correctional Center
Missouri Department of Corrections custody. Use the active offender search, historical data, Parole Board records, and Probation and Parole as the state status requires.
A transfer from the jail to TCC or another prison continues custody. A move from TCC to another MODOC institution also continues state incarceration. Community release from TCC may involve parole or conditional release, while final discharge ends the relevant state authority.
Note: The county of conviction does not prove where a state prisoner is housed; use the assigned place in the MODOC record.
Moniteau County Reentry Planning
State-prison reentry and county-jail release are not interchangeable. MODOC reports that Tipton Correctional Center offers sixteen programming types, and institutional parole officers help assess people, track progress, prepare for hearings, and develop supervision plans. Program completion can support preparation, but it does not guarantee parole or a particular release date.
MODOC Reentry Services describes statewide help with identification, transportation, medical care, treatment, and other transition needs. Every state prison has a reentry center. No equivalent Moniteau County Jail reentry office was found on the sheriff’s official site, so a county detainee or family should ask the jail what local referrals are actually available.
Travel After a Moniteau Release
Rural transportation requires advance planning. The OATS Transit Moniteau schedule lists California and Tipton in-town service on Tuesdays and county service to Jefferson City on the first and third Wednesdays. Reservations are required twenty-four to forty-eight hours ahead through the published regional numbers. The listed local fare is two dollars each way, and payment is not accepted on the bus.
That schedule can help with a planned office visit, state identification task, or later appointment. It is not an on-demand jail-release ride and should not be promised for an uncertain evening or weekend exit. Families should confirm both the actual release time and transportation plan with the relevant agency before traveling.
