Tipton Correctional Center Release History
The state-owned Tipton campus covers about 34 acres and has 32 buildings, including 18 living units. Its institutional history began in January 1915 as a girls’ home. It later became a boys’ home and opened as a correctional center in 1996. MODOC reports 16 types of programming at the site. Those facts describe the institution. They do not establish any one person’s custody or release.
That history forms one side of Moniteau County’s unusual two-system landscape. The county jail was built in 2012 and is a sheriff facility with a 52-person maximum capacity. Tipton is a state prison on a much older campus. A jail release is a county booking event. A Tipton release is a state sentence, parole, conditional-release, or discharge event. Using the correct system is essential even though both facilities share the same county.
A state offender photo also differs from a Moniteau County booking photograph. Someone who had both county and state custody episodes can have more than one image created by different agencies. Identify the source and date of each image rather than treating it as a single continuing record.
